Today was all about found objects.
Wednesday 29th of April
Louis sent us a challenge today to find anything that reminds us of anthropoids. So I went on an adventure today. Looking through every cupboards, and corners of the dusty country house I am staying at, I felt like a treasure hunter. Using all the imagery and new found knowledge about arthropods I acquired yesterday, I searched for anything that could remind me of these creepy crawlies. A task that is harder than you would think. I ended up picking up a few gardening tools, a spaghetti spoon, pistachios (for wings...?), an old toothbrush.
Ive also started to pay more attention to any bug around me, and trying to catch them.
Found objects
Louis, being technologically savvy, offered that we film our found objects so that he could add a backdrop so we could start playing with scale and see how they film. I started a few tries with my toothbrush and my spaghetti spatula.
I have uploaded some of the examples I had from that day.
The day was a busy one with exploring objects and trying out sounds and movement. I also used the time to draw and paint some arthropods to try to get a deeper understanding of their bodies, and exploring with color. Later I want to really draw more and realize more technical drawings, but also create characters. I also want to create these drawings and make them 3D somehow.
Already after three days, I can see myself watching out for any objects with some sort of mechanism for legs, or textures for eyes etc...
Here are a few of my attempts at creating movement with these objects. It is definitely harder than I though to really pass through the idea of the arthropod.
