Arthropods
An Arthropod
is an invertebrate animal having an exoskeleton, a segmented body, and paired jointed appendages. Their versatility has enabled them to become the most species-rich members of all ecological guilds in most environments. They have over a million described species, making up more than 80 percent of all described living animal species, some of which, unlike most other animals, are very successful in dry environments.
Myriapoda
Legs Legs Legs !
These little buggers are everything from centipedes to millepedes. They range from having 750 legs to fewer than 10. They have a single pair of antenna and simple eyes. They are fast animals and contrary to belief they are very clean as after each meal they clean EVERY leg !
Insects
Insects, or in latin insectum, are recognized for their three-part bodies (head, thorax, and abdomen), three pairs of jointed legs, compound eyes and one pair of antenna. They are found in nearly every environment. They move by walking, flying and sometimes swimming. They have rapid stable movement.
Crustaceans
This family includes crabs, lobsters, crayfish, shrimps, prawns, krill, woodlice and barnacles. Crustaceans have exoskeletons, which they moult to grow. They have two-part limbs and are free-living aquatic animals. More than 7.9 million tons of crustaceans are produced for human consumption.
Arachnids
Spiders, scorpions, ticks, mites, harvestmen, and solitudes are part of this family. Almost all adult arachnids have 8 legs. They are for the most part terrestrial, however some inhabitant freshwater environment. They are carnivorous, feeding on pre-digested bodies of insects and other small mammals.
